Finding Balance: Nurturing Your Inner Child

Nurturing your inner child is essential for finding balance and living a fulfilling life. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of reconnecting with your inner child and provide tips on how to nurture and embrace this vital part of yourself.

In today's fast-paced and demanding world, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We often prioritize our responsibilities and obligations, neglecting the most important aspect of ourselves – our inner child.

Nurturing your inner child is essential for finding balance and living a fulfilling life. Without our inner child, we lose the capacity to daydream which leads to disconnection from our higher self (spirit).

The journey into adulthood, let alone parenting drives us to focus on different goals and aspects of life.

Once you have children, things change even more and it's so incredibly easy to get caught up in the routine of sorting out children, going to work, preparing meals, attending appointments and more.

As parents, it's incredibly easy to lose track of time and before you know it, you don't have any bandwidth left mentally and spiritually to allow yourself some time to play and relax!

Eventually, if you aren't aware of how important this aspect of self is, you either lose the capacity or the willingness to dream and miss out on creating a vision of your future that you enjoy.

Easy ways to nurture and embrace your Inner Child

In order to nurture your inner child, you need to embrace the right hemisphere of your brain. This is where your emotional and creative centres are found.

By flexing the neural pathways in the upper and lower right hemisphere, you strengthen them just as you would if you were weight training any other muscle in your body.

There are 5 easy ways you can do this, and even better they are ways that you can use with your children!

Those ways are to:

  • Embrace Playfulness

  • Spend Time in Nature

  • Practice Mindfulness

  • Engage in Creative Expression

  • Cultivate Self-Compassion

Here's how to implement those ways into your life. Simply focus on seeing where you can build in a little play time with your children if you can and see what eventuates!

Embrace Playfulness

Remember when you were a child, and everything seemed like an adventure? Embrace that sense of playfulness and curiosity in your daily life.

Engage in activities that bring you joy and make you feel alive.

Whether it's dancing, painting, or playing a musical instrument, find something that ignites your inner child's spirit and make time for it regularly.

Spend Time in Nature

Spending time outdoors allows us to tap into the simplicity and beauty of the natural world. Take a walk in the park, go hiking, or simply sit in a garden and observe the wonders around you.

Nature has a way of grounding us and reminding us of the joy and wonder we experienced as children. Not only that, but by walking barefoot in nature, you are literally grounding and dispelling the negative ions in your body to bring you physically back into balance.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful tool for nurturing your inner child.

Take moments throughout your day to pause, breathe, and be fully present in the moment. Notice the small details, the sounds, the smells, and the sensations. Ask your children to describe what they notice when they join you in this practice.

By practicing mindfulness, you can cultivate a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around you, just like a child does. You are also modelling a fantastic example for your children at the same time.

This is something that I like to do with my own children and I have noticed that it is teaching them that they can take control of their own thoughts and decisions. It's empowering them to take back control of their mind and not feel like a victim if things don't quite go to plan.

Engage in Creative Expression

Creativity is a natural outlet for our inner child. Whether it's writing, drawing, or crafting, find a creative activity that allows you to express yourself freely.

Don't worry about the outcome or judgment; focus on the process and the joy it brings you. Engaging in creative expression can help you tap into your imagination and reconnect with your inner child's sense of wonder and possibility.

Not only that, but you never know what entrepreneaurial opportunities arise when you let go and just create.

Cultivate Self-Compassion

Nurturing your inner child also involves cultivating self-compassion. Be gentle with yourself and practice self-care. Remember that you are deserving of love and care, just as you were as a child.

You would never tell a child that has just fallen over to 'Get up you Dummy!'

Why would you talk to yourself like this either?

Instead, try treating yourself with kindness and understanding, just as you would treat a child.

Allow yourself to make mistakes, learn from them, and grow. Practising Self-Compassion is the ultimate tool in your spiritual toolkit and allows for a maximum opportunity for personal growth.

Conclusion
