A day in the life of a neurodiverse mother

Every mother of a child with different wiring will agree on one thing...you never know how the day will unfold.

There was a time not long ago when my son only went to school part-time due to his medical diagnoses. He was working up to full time gradually, but I tell you what, it was an absolutely exhausting time trying to fit everything in!

I've found that the best way for me to stay sane, was to stick to a routine as much as possible. That way, you could at least slip back into whatever you were doing if (or when) there's a bad day at school or home.

With my son only at school for 3 hours per day, it didn't leave a lot of job options open.

You always have to get very creative with how to bring in the grocery money! Personally, I tried to make sure that everything s set up for a good day and that Master 10 was happy before we walked to school. That way between 9 am & 12 pm I could focus on my digital solutions work.

As my background is in Office Management with a strong focus on design, I had to pivot into Virtual Contracting, and supplemental part time work.

This scenario is very familiar for a lot of parents with neurodiverse children and is an area where I personally found mindfulness to be a particularly useful tool to help us all cope as a family.

The key thing when parenting neurodiverse children, is trying to maintain some sense of equilibrium.

This is crucial because our lives are affected so much by what is happening in our children's lives.

Our lives revolve around specialist appointments, meal preparing for specific dietary requirements and sensory needs, school meetings, tutoring and other normal parent duties!

This is where Digital products really come into the spotlight for me.

The beauty of combining planner templates, meal planning and journals is that they all allow you to do the work once throughout the week, and then track your progress and mindset with the journal daily.

Useful Digital Products for parenting ease
  • Emotion recognition cards
  • Educational flash cards
  • Meal Planner templates to make meal prep easier
  • Planners to capture all the appointments
  • Journalling for parents to help maintain perspective and positivity

By creating these habits, it frees up emotional energy to be able to cope with the other challenges that you may face. It allows you to be present in the moment and recharge your own battery in order to be there for the important things in life.

Not only that, but being more organized can also help manage the household budget better too, because you're not buying multiple versions of the same products already in the kitchen!
